Nowadays 38 TB of cloud storage is created every second, and the demand of Zettabytes cloud storage is needed within less than a decade. Such cloud data storage device requires several square miles using current magneto-optics technology. LarTec is developing a single element, far-field, nano-resolution lens for multi-layered recording, data storage devices on CD and DVD and for cloud data storage. The recording density, using the proposed lens, will be approaching 1TB/in² in each layer and the capacity will be reaching multi Tb/in2 for multi-layered recording. This development potentially makes the DVD as an alternative to magneto-optics (MO) drives with storage capacity increasing manifold.
